LVMD and MVMD electricity
Indicative energy path for Low Voltage Maximum Demand (DG6) and Medium Voltage Maximum Demand (DG7) over the next 6–12 months
The short version. LVMD and MVMD energy-only still follow the all-island wholesale market near €168/MWh. The bill shape is different: standing and MIC capacity dwarf the unit on MVMD, and DG7 carries a peak band from 17:00–19:00. Tracker energy-only is modelled up 3–4 c into January. Right-sizing MIC is often worth more than a 0.2 c unit win.

DUoS figures are from the ESB Networks statement of charges in force from 1 October 2025. TUoS, PSO (€0.24 / kVA / month if MIC ≥ 30 kVA), capacity market and VAT sit on top of energy.

3. Capacity is the quiet line
On MVMD the DUoS unit is small. A 500 kVA MIC already costs about €18,870 a year in DG7 capacity plus €5,161 standing — before TUoS and the supplier’s own capacity line. A 200 kVA LVMD MIC costs about €9,856 a year in DG6 capacity plus €1,320 standing. If the site shed load or added on-site generation, an oversized MIC is a larger leak than a 0.3 c energy adder.
MVMD peak (17:00–19:00) is both a DUoS adder and an energy-shape adder. Shifting process load, chilling or EV charging out of that window is the operational hedge that a 12-month fix cannot give you.
4. Renewal tactic
Practical order of work. Confirm DG6 vs DG7, MIC, import profile (day / peak / night shares) and 12-month kWh. 2) Do not break a fix that runs past March 2027. 3) If you renew this winter, budget LVMD Day energy-only in the high teens to low 20s and MVMD Peak a couple of cents above Day. 4) File an MIC review if measured demand has sat well below MIC for a year. 5) Prefer a 12-month fix or a tracker over a 36-month lock at this winter-weighted curve. 6) For MVMD volume, a 50/50 or winter-tranche hedge is usually cleaner than one number for three years.
